I grew up in Southeast Arizona in the Gila Valley, three hours from a shopping mall with one local Country radio station. My Grandma has a beauty shop next door to her house that has been in business since 1959 and I spent many hours of my childhood enchanted with all things feminine inside the Beauty Bar. As Kenny and Dolly were singing away and Paul Harvey was telling "The Rest Of The Story" on the shop radio, I watched as women were transformed before my eyes with pin curls and powdered noses. I knew every customer by name and would sit with them under the dryer as they thumbed through the latest issue of Good Housekeeping or Family Circle. Many family members and friends sat victim to my obsession with hair and make up during the off hours when the shop was closed. I began dancing at the age of 3 which also fueled my fascination with make up, false lashes and the glitz and glamor of the stage. It was only a matter of time before I took these affections and turned them into reality.
At 14, I moved with my family to Florida, finished High School and went to College. I received a B.S. in Dance from Jacksonville University in 1998. After college, I turned in my point shoes for some Latin heels. A classical training gave me the fundamentals and alignment but I was ready for some fun and dancing with hot guys sounded like the perfect match! I began competing and performing Ballroom and Latin all over the country with a partner and co-owned a dance studio in Jacksonville, Florida for 6 years. After many chronic injuries, I decided to teach part time and in 2004 landed a full time job with MAC Cosmetics. With MAC, I learned many styles and techniques along with the ins and outs of the make up industry. One year after working for MAC in Florida, I decided to further my career with MAC and fulfill my life long dream of moving to New York City. So in 2005, I packed up my make up brushes, my dance shoes and my cat, Tucker and moved to the city by myself. (insert background music of Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York") In 2009, my husband's job moved us to Southern California and I continue to work in make up and dance. I am bi-coastal between New York and the L.A. area.
In February 2007 I was featured in the story "A Make Up Artist Gets Her Big Break" on the cover of the Wall Street Journal. My work has been seen on the runways at 9 seasons of New York Fashion Week allowing me the pleasure to work along side many well known make up artists. My love of make up has gone from a retail setting onto Broadway, photo shoots, the catwalks and creating the perfect look for Brides.
